Wireless Weather Stations
Before I received my first wireless weather stations, I was quite sceptical of the results that such a unit could provide. But it wasn’t long before my scepticism changed to pleasant surprise.
A wireless weather stations main feature is the fact that it is completely wireless. The sensor units do not have a wire link to the display unit. I received my unit on Christmas day. It was chilly and it was snowy outside.
Being the gadget kind of guy, I was very interested in using this unit immediately, so by the time the sun went down, I had the wireless weather stations main unit and sensors installed on a pole just outside my house. Now remember that the temperature was around -27 degrees Celsius or for my southern relatives, -16 degrees F.
Wireless Weather Stations – My Setup
I didn’t expect the batteries that normally come with wireless weather stations to last in those temperatures, but it’s now been almost 10 months and the unit has held up very well! So, when it comes to this setup, I’m totally sold.
My unit is rock solid and has served well in its first year of service. But here are some of the features I’d recommend when you are looking at wireless weather stations.
Atomic time clock is a nice to have feature – something I’d actually recommend when looking at wireless weather stations. It has nothing to do with a weather station, but tons to do with it. I find that it having dead accurate time to be very handy. It’s a feature I would not want to do without.
Another nice feature is as many sensors as possible! My particular wireless weather stations contains wind speed and direction, air pressure, air temperature inside and out, humidity and rain indicator.
The more the sensors wireless weather sensors have, the smarter they can be at not only presenting these facts but providing you with graphed data and predictive forecasting. Again, this is a nice feature.
I’ve learnt to understand what my wireless weather station is telling me and some days it’s much more accurate then the local weather man. That has come to me as a pleasant surprise.
Wireless Weather Stations – Conclustions
Another nice to have feature is one I briefly mentioned earlier within wireless weather stations. Graphing of historic data. The air pressure is logged and presented per hour for the past 24 hours on my unit. By watching this bar chart, I can see trends in the weather that makes it easy to predict the soon to come weather with fairly good accuracy.
Plus as I’ve come to understand the separate indicators, I’ve been able to learn what direction the wind is coming and how it normally relates to the up and coming weather. For example, if the wind is coming from the east in my location, it normally means fairly dry weather and I do find that lines up with my wireless weather stations predictability stats.
So, there’s my recommendations when hunting for wireless weather stations. Look around and don’t be afraid to select a better unit when deciding to purchase. You won’t regret it. Having wireless weather stations can be really handy.
